Over the last few months, I have come to realize that destination wedding photography has the potential to be a large part of my business. Sometimes when people get married away, they just want someone they can trust to take great images and capture, not just the important moments...but many of the other, overlooked moments. I have already shot weddings in Cuba and Happy Valley-Goose Bay (yes, that is a destination) and over the next 10 months, I'll be in Punta Cana and Vegas, baby.
Today, I had the honour of being featured in a well read Destination Wedding Blog named 'Destination Inspirations'. It is run by a real nice gal named Jessica McCann who has a love for everything destination and I'm thrilled to have made it to her site. Thanks Jess, for finding me and including my work to your wonderful blog.

Last week Sarah & John were in the studio having their maternity photos done. I knew Sarah way back in grade school (she was the one with the fiery red hair) but I met her again recently as she was the minister at Jo & Eddie's wedding. We had a wonderful time together and I really look forward to meeting their little one.

Earlier this month, Dolcetto Designs, a talented Canadian custom photo card and invitation company put on a contest asking people to show off their favourite engagement shot. One of my past wedding clients won with a wonderful photo which was shot at Crystal Crescent Beach one morning a few summers ago. This was right after we all got rocked by a truly rogue wave. You may recognize Jo from my Facebook Fan Page, my business cards and various other photo shoots over the last couple of years. She 's doing great with her new business, If It Glitters and I look forward to photographing them again.

Well that was fun. This was my first destination wedding and I'm so thrilled it all went to well. The families were fun, the bride and groom were up for anything (and we took off the next day for a fun shoot in town and in the water) and the day went off without a hitch. It was so nice, the entire group was there for nearly a week before the wedding even took place - it was like a vacation for everyone more than a wedding....and that made for a real nice wedding.
I took tonnes of photos on wedding day - here are a few.

After the wedding, the three of us headed into a beautifully rustic Cuban colonial town named Remedios. We met so many wonderful people and got to see a lot of authentic Cuba. We also got many wonderful images. Then we came back to the beach and, this time, didn't worry about getting the dress wet. This wedding shoot ended up in the pool - a great way to wind up a great day, week and wedding.

Even though Cara is only 10 weeks old, her eyes just cut right through me. I love this shot.

Last fall I met Tricia & Pat when they asked me to do their maternity photos. We went to Crystal Crescent Beach and spent the morning shooting, eating cookies and trying to keep warm. Then they had the twins, Éva & Noah. Over Christmas I went over to their house and we had a great shoot with three generations in a beautiful festive setting. Last week they came over to the studio and I'm thrilled... we got so many really nice images.
You know...one of the nice things about my job is building life-long relationships with many of my clients. I really care about Tricia & Patrick. They are good people and I look forward to seeing Éva & Noah grow up into cute little tykes and getting some crazy-great images....for them.

Well, well, well. Natt & Matt (or Mattalie) are finally getting married. I'm quite excited to photograph their wedding but haven't yet completely figured out how I'm going to get the family shots...um...with me in them. It'll be a bit of, "hey Jilly, come over here and press this button." Not only do I have honour of photographing my own sisters wedding this August (Friday the 13th) but I will also be shooting my brothers wedding this September. I look forward to getting John and Aimee out for a shoot before their wedding.

This weekend I finally shot Jillian & Stephen's wedding. With all the photography planning and meetings with the bride's parents, Pam and Grant, I was really anxious to finally get them in front of my camera. Jillian is a helicopter pilot and Stephen flys F-18's...so obviously they're pretty cool. Here is one quick shot from downtown Halifax - more photos to come!

Last week I was in Cuba as the wedding photographer for Mandi & Mark's big day. Abbey was one the bridesmaids and asked me to do a family photo shoot with her new little girl, Olivia, once they arrived. We had a very fun morning on the beach and wound up with some really stunning images. Everyone who was at Mandi's wedding had an amazing time, but now Abbey's family will have photos that will remind them of this wonderful week forever. Coincidently, Abbey will also be at a wedding I'll be photographing in Halifax this weekend....and she's a bridesmaid again!
